Eldorado

And at the same time it's illustrating home truths about participant incompetence - all with a huge element of fun!

How it works:
Each team (usually up to ten teams in one session but more is possible) has a Briefing Folder containing an introductory brief, some clues, some tasks and a Treasure Map. All they need to do is locate the position of the treasure on the map and find the right key to open the chest - and they will win the Treasure of Eldorado! Some trainers request £1 from each participant to represent the treasure. What normally happens is that individual teams try anything to win the money for themselves, even though it soon becomes clear that all teams must work with one another if they are to get their money back!

What it does:
It's all to do with teamwork versus rivalry - and Eldorado! helps check out this situation within organisations. What is clear from this exercise is that most organisations fail to create a truly co-operative atmosphere in which teams can trust each other and function effectively. Instead they create inter-departmental rivalry, suspicion and competition - a reluctance to share information and resources and a tendency to win for themselves - even at the expense of the organisation as a whole.
